Roderick Smith will present on the following subject:

Narrow Gauge Railways in China

China, the world's fourth-largest nation, has a large variety of industrial railways.

Its coal mines were the last home of large sg locos as real working steam in the world.

There are many more industrial railways on medium and narrow gauges: some electric; some diesel; but the last steam lines have morphed into tourism.

Since China opened to individual tourism, railway enthusiasts have discovered most of those operations.  Member Rod Smith has been to China several times, two of which were with a group inspecting these.

Our April presentation will cover a selection from mining, forestry, salt, steelworks.  Some of these supply passenger operations for workers and for local travel.
